Streaming platform VMX is bringing back the cult-classic erotic thriller Sex Drive with a modern reboot directed by Bobby Bonifacio Jr. The reimagined film stars VMX lead actors Apphle Celso, Angel Castro, Benz Sangalang, and Juan Calma.
During the film’s media conference, Bonifacio shared that while the reboot pays homage to the original Sex Drive starring Katya Santos and Maui Taylor, the 2026 version offers a fresh take for today’s audience. Rather than following the original road-trip narrative, the new film centers on the psychological and literal “drive” for passion, desire, and survival, while introducing more ambitious technical elements, including underwater intimate scenes.
Lead stars Apphle Celso and Angel Castro expressed their excitement about taking on roles once portrayed by Viva icons. Castro said it was a personal honor to headline the reboot, especially after previously working with Katya Santos on television. Meanwhile, Celso opened up about her life beyond the camera, sharing how she overcame online criticism, anxiety, and mental health struggles through self-help books and personal growth.
Benz Sangalang and Juan Calma also shared their enthusiasm for the project, saying Sex Drive combines action, suspense, and romance in a way that challenged them as actors. Sangalang added that the film pushed him to take on bolder and more physically demanding scenes under Bonifacio’s direction.
Sex Drive is set to stream exclusively on VMX starting September 1, 2026.
